Minister Dith Tina Presides Over 100th Anniversary of Cambodia’s Oldest Rubber Tree

Tboung Khmum: On the morning of December 17, 2024, Mr. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, presided over the centennial celebration of Cambodia’s oldest rubber tree at Techo-Thipdei Rubber Heritage National Park, situated in Thma Pich commune, Tboung Khmum district, Tboung Khmum province.

During the ceremony, the Minister shared greetings from the Prime Minister Hun Manet, directed towards all personnel in the Cambodian rubber sector. He emphasized the significance of the historic rubber plantation as a valuable heritage that warrants protection and serves as an essential resource for research.

Minister Dith Tina highlighted that Cambodia has successfully developed two rubber clones, CRRI 12 and CRRI 19, which are recognized for their high-quality resin output and significant yields, advocating for their further cultivation and promotion.

In his address, the Minister outlined priority policies within the agricultural sector aimed at ensuring food security, as well as economic and environmental sustainability. He encouraged farmers to remain engaged throughout various stages of production, stressing the importance of quality and added value in the rubber sector, with a focus on local processing for potential export of finished products to international markets.

With regard to the rubber-cutting program, the Minister expressed his satisfaction with the program's success and its widespread public support. He noted that the initiative has provided valuable insights into the working conditions of rubber-cutting laborers while showcasing outstanding performances from candidates representing various companies.

Based on the positive outcomes observed, Minister Dith Tina announced that the rubber-cutting program would become an annual event, aimed at fostering efficiency and adherence to work standards among rubber-cutting workers. The program will also facilitate opportunities for workers to exchange technical experiences.

In closing, the Minister extended his gratitude to the ministry's leadership, provincial authorities, civil servants at all levels, private sector companies, and all workers for their contributions to the event, wishing for continued success and happiness under the auspices of peace.
